Drone operations
At Northpower, our advanced drone operations are designed to deliver precise, efficient, and safe critical infrastructure inspections. Certified under New Zealand’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Part 102, we are not bound by many of the restrictions typical to standard drone operations, allowing us to offer our contracting clients broader options and capabilities.
Extended reach and efficiency
Our Part 102 certification enables us to operate near uncontrolled aerodromes with a simple notification process, ensuring rapid response times and access to more sites. We also streamline inspections over private properties by simply notifying landowners, instead of the usual lengthy permissions process.
Night and high-altitude operations
With the ability to conduct night flights, we can perform specialised inspections such as thermal surveys without needing additional shielded lighting.
Additionally, our drones can fly above 400 feet, enabling us to effectively inspect electrical infrastructure in challenging locations. This capability ensures thorough coverage and detailed assessments of assets in high-altitude and difficult-to-reach areas.
Results you can count on
In the past year, our drones covered 424 circuit kilometers, capturing over 56,000 images and identifying over 1,700 conductor defects.
This data has been crucial in maintaining the health of New Zealand’s electrical grid, contributing to more informed decisions and optimised maintenance strategies.
We’re continuing to leverage cutting-edge drone technology to safeguard and maintain the electrical assets that power our communities.
