Power Technician

We welcome an experienced Power Technician who is highly safety conscious to join our substations team in Auckland.

The role
You will be responsible for providing technical detail to management and field delivery of high voltage substation testing works safely, positively, effectively and efficiently. You will also:

- Work with management to plan and agree on work/job objectives
- Scope a job effectively and identify environmental and other influencing factors
- Ensure plant and equipment are compliant, in test, in good working order and fit for purpose.
- Provide support for the estimating of works to ensure they are priced correctly
- Guide with interpreting technical drawings and specifications when required
- Perform competent audits and quality checks
- Articulate job methodologies and approach clearly and clarify to team on site
- Seek and explore alternative ideas/approaches to make cost savings and improvements
- Complete necessary reports

About you
To be successful in this role, you’ll hold a current practising licence along with strong knowledge of relevant Codes of Practice, Policies, Standards, Work Procedures, Legislative requirements and the relevant Parts of the Safe Manual – Electricity Industry (SE-MI)
You will also demonstrate:
- Proven technical experience in high voltage zone substations environment with the ability to deliver high standard of technical service
- Experience with Omicron or similar test equipment
- Able to test protection relays, current transformers, voltage transformers and power transformers.
- Relevant trade qualification , Diploma or NZCE ( or equivalent)
- Current Work Place Competency ( WTC) as required by the role
- Experience in underground cable testing and cable IDs beneficial
- Provide support to your fellow team members through your knowledge and experience in the industry; enjoy being a part of the team, yet able to work independently
- Pro-actively promote a safety culture in line with legislation and company procedures
- Ability to display initiative, integrity, consistency and composure
- Strong interpersonal skills preferably in a multi- cultural environment with the ability to build and maintain trusting relations with our internal & external customers
Computer literacy in Microsoft Word and Excel (as a minimum)
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- A willingness to take the lead and ownership of all set tasks
- A current Clean, Full  NZ Driver’s licence
