Senior People & Capability Advisor – 12 Months Fixed Term

About the Role
As a Senior People & Capability Advisor, you will be a trusted partner across the business, providing expert advice and hands-on support in all areas of the employee lifecycle. Working closely with leaders, you will drive HR best practices that align with Northpower’s vision, values, and commitment to building a high-performing and engaged workforce.

In this busy and varied role, you will:

- Provide expert coaching and advice to leaders on HR best practices
- Lead and manage end-to-end employment relations matters, including disciplinary processes, performance management, and bargaining in a unionised environment.
- Build strong relationships with unions and navigate collective agreements with confidence
- Support organisational change initiatives and workforce planning
- Drive leadership capability development through mentoring and coaching
- Partner with leaders to develop strategic people plans that enhance engagement and business performance
- Ensure compliance with NZ employment law and HR policies

About You
To be successful in this role, you’ll need to be a seasoned HR professional with a strong understanding of employment relations and union environments. You’ll be confident in partnering with leaders, coaching them to make sound people decisions, and driving HR initiatives that support business outcomes.

You will also bring:

- A relevant bachelor’s degree in HR, industrial/organisational psychology, or a related field
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an HR advisory role, with a strong focus on employment relations and union engagement
- Proven experience managing complex employment relations cases end-to-end, including mediation, collective bargaining, and performance management
- Strong knowledge of NZ employment law and HR compliance
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of an organisation
- High levels of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism
- A problem-solving mindset with the ability to influence and drive change
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications
