About us
Northpower’s central contracting division provides contracting services to our electrical and energy partners.  These include other Network Owners, Power generation companies and the national Grid.

We have over 1,300 staff working together across 12 locations across the north island to keep our communities powered.

Due to growth, our Central region substations team is now looking for an experienced and motivated Electrical Fitter to join their team to construct and maintain electrical equipment to customer requirements in High Voltage substation and Power station environments.


The role

As an Electrical Fitter at Northpower, you’ll be at the forefront of New Zealand’s energy sector, working on critical infrastructure projects and maintenance programs, that keep our communities powered.
Your work will involve:
- High-voltage switchgear installation.
- Power transformer maintenance and commissioning.
- Substation maintenance and upgrades.
- Building new renewable electricity generation stations.
- Collaborating with skilled tradesmen and technicians.
- Following industry-leading safety and project frameworks.
- Conduct job scoping and planning with accuracy.

About you
You’ll either be a qualified Electrical Fitter or have an electrical registration with a strong background in industrial or commercial electricity sector, looking to become an Electrical Fitter. 

To be successful in this role, you will be advantageous if you have some or all the following:
- Registered electrician with a current practicing licence.
- New Zealand drivers licence
- Strong knowledge of high-voltage equipment and safe work practices.
- Team player with a commitment to safety and quality.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
- Passion for the energy industry and a drive to contribute to New Zealand’s sustainable future
- Experience with switching HV & LV network lock-out and tag systems.
- Able to cope with the physical demands of the job.
- Passion for the energy industry and a drive to contribute to New Zealand’s sustainable future.
