Northpower achieves milestone with over 4,000 home energy assessments
Northpower has successfully completed 4,118 in-home energy assessments across Whangārei and Kaipara in our home energy education programme, saving over $3 million on household power bills annually.
The programme has been running since January 2022 and provides free, personalised energy saving advice and devices to households in Whangārei and Kaipara through local, on-the-ground assessors. Run in partnership with Ecobulb Ltd, it uses a simple tool to calculate and then show potential savings to the households who receive an assessment.
Over the three-year period, local energy assessors have visited homes to provide tailored advice and supplied 50,899 energy-saving Ecobulb LEDs and 3,982 energy-efficient showerheads, helping those homes reduce their energy usage immediately.
The simple behavioural changes and energy efficient devices adopted by households are estimated to save $3.09 million annually on power bills across our region, or an average of $751 per household per year.
Northpower’s Community Partnerships Lead Arriane Christie is proud that these assessments are making a real difference to whanau in Northland.
“It is great being able to talk with families in their homes, to help them understand simple ways to save money on their power bills and then see the relief knowing that those savings will help make their lives easier in other ways too,” Arriane says.
The Northpower funded programme has also had support from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Support for Energy Education in Communities (SEEC) fund (which now falls under EECA).
“Having the extra SEEC funding on top of what Northpower puts into this programme means we can reach even more Whangārei and Kaipara households in a time when saving money on bills is becoming more important for a lot of whanau,” Arriane says.
This milestone represents Northpower’s continuous work in our community to promote energy efficiency and help local households cut their power bills. If you would like some more information, contact us today.
