Northpower breaks ground at new Maungatapere solar farm

Northpower has broken ground at its new solar farm being constructed in Maungatapere, Northland.

This is the second solar farm owned by Northpower following the successful build of the 16.8MW Te Puna Mauri ō Omaru in Ruawai.

A whakawātea was held with local hapū Te Parawhau to mark the occasion.

Chief Operating Officer – New Business Ollie O’Neill says: “This second solar build shows Northpower’s ambition coming to life. It’s really pleasing to see that in 12 months’ time we will have another community owned, constructed and operated renewable generation asset in Northpower’s footprint. I’m excited about the opportunities this investment gives us to further invest in Northland businesses and people.”

The Maungatapere farm will have a 18MW capacity and represents a $23m investment in community-owned renewable generation in Northland.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in November 2026.
