Calling engineering students to apply for Northpower scholarship

Northpower is proud to announce it is sponsoring scholarships for two outstanding undergraduate engineering students who have a connection to Whangārei, Dargaville or surrounding communities.

We’ve long been committed to supporting emerging engineering talent. For many years, Northpower has offered scholarships to help enthusiastic students pursue their studies and contribute to Northland’s energy future.

We’re inviting University of Auckland BE(Hons) electrical engineering students in Part III or IV with a passion for the energy industry.

These undergraduate scholarships are offered through our partnership with Aruhiko Power Engineering Excellence Trust. Apply now through the University of Auckland website, search Aruhiko. Applications close on 1 April 2026.

General Manager – Network Operations and DSO Raj Singh says, “Northpower embraces the opportunity to support and encourage engineering students from Northland in their studies and introduce them to the energy sector. Our scholarships offer a financial contribution to university fees, mentorship, on-the-job training and industry exposure.

“We encourage these future engineers to consider a meaningful career in the energy sector and are keen to be part of their journey as they build this career pathway.

“The energy sector is an exciting space for engineers to prosper as if offers the opportunity to work on innovative and progressive energy projects.”

We’re contributing $3,000 to a Part III student and $5,000 to a Part IV student in 2026.

As part of the scholarship, Northpower also offers successful candidates paid work experience during semester breaks. During this time, they will work closely with engineers and senior staff, applying the knowledge they’ve have gained through university to real-world situations. This will include involvement in exciting projects, network upgrades, and the opportunity to see construction projects being delivered on the ground.

The scholarship is offered through our partnership with Aruhiko Power Engineering Excellence Trust. Through this scholarship, we’re helping to connect communities and build futures for Northland.
