Inspiring wāhine into infrastructure
Northpower has been a long standing supporter of Girls in Infrastructure, with involvement in the programme spanning many years.
In June 2025, we again took part in the event at Semenoff Stadium in Whangārei, helping to promote career pathways for young women across the infrastructure sector.
Despite wet and chilly conditions, the day was marked by strong engagement and enthusiasm. Female Year 12 and 13 students from across Northland attended the event, exploring career pathways through hands on activities, site visits and direct conversations with industry professionals.
Our on-site team members shared their experiences and delivered interactive learning opportunities, with our amazing wāhine leading the way as visible role models for students.
Our line truck activity proved particularly popular, giving students the chance to operate hydraulic equipment and experience the precision required in field roles.
Inside the Northpower booth, students took part in practical challenges including crimping cables, building electrical circuits and assembling cross arms, quickly picking up technical skills while working collaboratively.
Beyond the activities, the event provided valuable opportunities for conversation.
Our team spoke with students about roles across energy and infrastructure, helping demystify the industry and broaden understanding of the pathways available.
