Generator Giveaway: Terms and Conditions

Terms and conditions for the Northpower & Mitre 10 MEGA Whangārei Generator Campaign promotion running Monday, 1 June 2026 – Friday, 31 July 2026.

1. Promotion Overview

The Generator Giveaway is part of the Northpower Winter Readiness Campaign in collaboration with Mitre10 MEGA Whangārei and runs from Monday 1 June 2026 to Friday 31 July 2026. The promotion invites participants to nominate a community facility to receive a generator to support resilience during power outages.

2. Eligibility

The promotion is open to;

  • Individuals who are residents of Whangārei and Kaipara districts aged 18 years and over.
  • Are not current employees of Northpower Limited (‘Northpower’), Wellscot Hardware Whangarei Limited trading as Mitre 10 MEGA Whangārei (‘Mitre 10 MEGA Whangārei’),
  • Euroquip, nor a spouse, de facto partner, parent, child or sibling (whether natural or by adoption) of such an employee
  • Are not professionally connected with the promotion
  • Entrants must nominate a community facility (e.g. marae, community hall, or similar shared community space) located within the Whangārei or Kaipara districts that is a hub during emergencies.

3. How to Enter

To enter the prize draw, participants must:

  • Complete the official Generator Giveaway nomination form via the campaign landing page (northpower.nz/get-winter-ready).
  • Provide accurate contact details (name, email, phone number).
  • Include:
    • Name and location of the nominated community facility
    • A description of how the generator would benefit the community

Additional conditions:

  • Multiple nominations are permitted; however, each entry must be unique.
  • Only one prize will be awarded.

4. Prize Details

Weekly Prize Draws:

  • One (1) generator prize will be awarded.
  • The prize is a Powertec 8500W Inverter Generator, 20L fuel can and 600ml engine oil. Valued at approximately $2,350, supplied by Mitre 10 MEGA Whangārei and/or partners.
  • The generator prize will be awarded to the nominated community facility, not the individual entrant.
  • Award to the successful community facility is conditional on the nominated community facility accepting these terms and conditions of this competition, including but not limited to 8 – 14 below.

5. Selection Process

  • The winning entry will be selected by a panel appointed by Northpower at the conclusion of the promotional period.
  • Judging will be based on:
    • Demonstrated community benefit
    • Need for outage support
    • Strength and clarity of the nomination

This is not a random prize draw.

6. Winner notification and announcement

  • The selected entrant will be contacted using the details provided within 3 working days of the decision.
  • The winner must confirm acceptance within 7 days, or an alternative entry may be selected.
  • The winning community and/or entrant may be publicly announced (e.g. website, social media, or PR).

7. Personal Information and Privacy

Personal information collected through this promotion will be used solely for:

  • Administering the prize draw and contacting winners
  • Sending occasional promotional and safety information from Northpower (participants may opt out/unsubscribe at any time)
  • Personal information will be handled in accordance with Northpower’s Privacy Statement.
  • By entering, participants consent to Northpower and Mitre 10 MEGA Whangārei using their name and image for promotional purposes if they are the recipient of prizes
  • Personal information will not be shared with third parties except as required to administer the competition and prize draw
  • By entering, participants must have consent from the community organisation, and the organisation consents to having their name used in any promotions by Northpower or Mitre 10 MEGA Whangarei.

8. Prize Delivery and Use

  • The generator will be delivered to or collected on behalf of the nominated community facility.
  • Northpower will coordinate delivery or collection arrangements along with Mitre 10 MEGA Whangārei.
  • The generator is intended for community use during outages and emergencies.

Important:

  • The recipient community is responsible for:
    • Safe operation and storage
    • Ongoing maintenance
    • Compliance with any manufacturer or safety requirements

9. Prize Conditions

  • The prize is not transferable, exchangeable, or redeemable for cash.
  • If the nominated facility is deemed unsuitable or unwilling to receive the generator prize, an alternative winner may be selected.
  • Northpower and/or Mitre 10 MEGA Whangārei reserve the right to substitute the generator prize with a similar product of equal or greater value if required.

10. Liability and Responsibility

To the extent permitted by law, Northpower and its partners accept no liability for:

  • Any loss, damage, or injury arising from the use of the generator
  • Any issues related to installation, operation, or maintenance

The generator must be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and safety guidelines.

11. Acceptance and Agreement

By submitting a nomination, entrants:

  • Confirm they have permission (where appropriate) to nominate the facility
  • Agree to these Terms and Conditions
  • Acknowledge that the prize is awarded for community benefit purposes

12. Installation and Setup Disclaimer

The generator prize is intended as a backup, standalone power supply until power can be restored. It is intended for plug-in appliances like fridges and freezers and is a great way to charge phones and other electronics. It is not intended to be connected to the main power supply of your property (i.e., feeding the switchboard). The prize does not include installation, electrical wiring, setup, or commissioning of the generator.

Northpower, Mitre 10 MEGA Whangārei, and associated partners are not responsible for installing or connecting the generator to any building, system, or infrastructure, or for any damage the generator may cause if not operated correctly.

Any installation, connection, or use of the generator must be arranged independently by the recipient community and carried out by a qualified professional where required.

13. Fuel, Servicing and Accessories

  • The prize includes the generator unit, fuel can and engine oil only.
  • Fuel, extension leads, connection equipment, shelters, or any additional accessories are not included unless otherwise specified.
  • Ongoing costs associated with the generator are the responsibility of the recipient community, including:
    • Fuel
    • Maintenance and servicing
    • Repairs and replacement parts

14. Health and Safety Disclaimer (Generator Use)

  • Generators must be used strictly in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and all relevant health and safety guidelines.
  • Improper use of a generator can present serious risks, including carbon monoxide poisoning, fire, electric shock, or injury.
  • The generator must only be operated:
    • In well-ventilated outdoor areas
    • Away from buildings, doors, windows, and enclosed spaces
  • Northpower, Mitre 10 MEGA Whangārei, and associated partners accept no liability for any injury, loss, or damage arising from the use or misuse of the generator.
  • The recipient community is responsible for ensuring that anyone operating the generator is adequately informed and follows safe operating practices.
