Harnessing AI with Vector
Since 2021, Vector has been working with Tapestry, a project from X, the Moonshot Factory (formerly Google X) to virtualise the Auckland electricity network and use AI technology to enhance the inspection of overhead network assets on their Auckland network.
One of the inputs for this is capturing high quality inspection data, and for that Vector turned to us.
Capturing Vector's network
Using drones, our Inspection Solutions team have taken over 96,000 high-resolution images of Vector’s distribution network across Auckland, complemented with thermal and acoustic inspections to detect faults invisible to the naked eye.
Training AI to identify faults
The team assesses the condition of the assets – digitally annotating the images captured in the field to highlight asset condition and wear and tear. These annotations are used by Tapestry’s AI model to recognise a fault and identify what needs to be fixed. With each annotated image, the model becomes more proficient in assessing the condition of assets.
Our team is helping Vector leverage the full potential of AI. The goal is to help develop the AI model to automatically prioritise maintenance and schedule jobs based on the inspection data captured in the field.
