Fibre for business

Getting your business connected to fibre

Since 2010, we have been adding new fibre build areas across Whangārei and Kaipara, including central Whangārei, Glenbervie, Whangārei Heads, Dargaville, Kaiwaka, Maungaturoto, Paparoa, Ruakaka, Waipu and Mangawhai, with more than 25,000 businesses and homes already connected to our ultra fast broadband (UFB) fibre network.

There are three stages to receiving services over UFB fibre:
• Northpower Fibre will take fibre down your street
• A connection will be put into your business, home or school; and
• An optical network termination (ONT) box will be fitted inside your premises for connecting computers and other devices to

Connecting to the fibre network in your area

Once we have the UFB network in your area, you can get connected by talking to a Retail Service Provider (RSP) – generally an internet service provider or telecommunications company. Check out our fibre retail partners.

The fibre can be connected overhead from a power pole or run underground from your property boundary. Whichever way the fibre ‘drop’ is delivered, it will extend to what’s called an external termination point (ETP), a small box fixed to the outside wall.

Connecting UFB fibre into your business

The fibre network connects directly to the optical network termination (ONT) box and your equipment, i.e, phones, alarms, computers, automated machinery and your gateway/modem/router will connect to the network via this unit.

If you are running any specialised equipment and have any concerns about how this might be affected, we recommend that you discuss this concern with your retail service provider. Once you have a UFB connection your WiFi modem location becomes very important for the assurance of good, high speed WiFi coverage. Discuss this with your retail service provider or installer if you wish to know more.

Fibre voice packages for VOIP and VOF

If your business uses a VOIP/VOF phone system, you can request a voice package (VOIP/VOF) with your fibre connection.

The internal copper wiring in your business can possibly be retained but we recommend discussing this with your retail service provider before you make any decisions. The integration of the wiring may incur a charge.
