Community safety engagement

Ensuring public safety around our network assets, we’ve continued our information and advice programme on staying safe around electricity for our Northland communities.

Last year we ran ‘Stay Safe Together’ – a comprehensive safety awareness campaign, addressing our top public safety risks.

We delivered the campaign through a multi-channel approach, including social media, online newspapers and local print advertising to directly reach Northlanders digitally, and employed a grassroots approach to engage in- person.

The campaign’s success was evident, with over 4,000 direct visits to our website and an upswing in reporting public safety issues.

Our ongoing commitment to public safety

Based on the success of the initial five-month campaign, we are continuing the ‘Stay Safe Together’ public safety campaign. Each month focuses on a new targeted safety topic, with online campaigns supported in person at community events such as rural field days and sponsorship initiatives

Successful safety engagement throughout the summer

Throughout December and January, we delivered a summer-specific version of the campaign – ‘12 Days of Summer Safety’ – directed at keeping safe around electricity throughout the holidays.

Themed around the 12 days of Christmas, we used our social media channels posting new safety advice each day for the first twelve days of December. This was followed with a full ‘advent calendar’ which was advertised across social and print media including Google, NZME (NZ Herald), and Meta platforms, until the end of January. Over the course of the campaign, the advertisement was viewed more than one million times.

Each ad prompted consumers to visit a dedicated page on our website and test their safety knowledge in a ‘summer safety quiz’, with a weekly prize draw incentive. The quiz received over 1,000 entries.

This summer’s campaign was highly successful, attracting nearly 10,000 visitors to the campaign’s web page. It’s pleasing to see the tangible results of public safety engagement and the positive response from our local communities.
