To strengthen our culture and capability, Northpower created Whare Ako – the house of learning – for our people.
We began our Whare Ako journey from 2022, launching a programme of learning opportunities so our people can grow, share and connect as they journey through their career pathway.
Last year, 80 of our people completed the inaugural Peak Performance programme, a custom-built development programme for our leaders and managers, guiding them on turning strategy into tangible actions and outcomes, and giving them management foundations and leadership inspiration.
In tandem, 20 of our people graduated from Northpower’s bespoke Talent Development Programme. This programme is in its third year and continues to be highly subscribed. Since its inception in 2024, we have seen 52% of our participants advance their careers, moving into stretch opportunities.
Senior Engineer Sonny Kingi says, “Being part of the Talent Development Programme has helped me shift my mindset from managing tasks to leading people. I’ve learned the value of adapting my approach and leadership style to better support my team and the business.”
We also were proud to announce the launch of micro-credentials in the workplace. We co-designed courses with partners New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology and The Energy Academy so our people can access formalised NZQA recognised learning on the job.
Whare Ako will continuously evolve over the coming years – building the skills, culture and leadership we need for our future.
