Annual Report 2026

Cyber security for critical infrastructure

Northpower takes a risk-based approach to cyber security, using industry-standard frameworks to prioritise protection where it matters most.

The global threat environment remains elevated, and no organisation can be fully immune. High levels of collaboration and information sharing across the electricity sector mean emerging threats are identified early and response arrangements stay aligned with good practice for critical infrastructure.

During the year, Northpower joined a shared Security Operations Centre service alongside other electricity distribution businesses, providing 24/7 monitoring by specialist professionals and enabling earlier detection and response to potential threats. The cyber events detected during the year were low severity, identified early, and contained without impact on customers or operations. Northpower maintains well-tested incident management procedures and works closely with national cyber agencies and sector partners.

Our people remain central to cyber security, and staff awareness training and phishing simulations continued during the year. Northpower’s cyber maturity continues to improve, with future focus on building organisation-wide capability to respond to and recover from incidents quickly and effectively.
