Marking change with tikanga and connection
Northpower shared two significant moments at our Auckland depot in the last year — farewelling Vector’s Chief Executive Simon Mackenzie and welcoming Vector’s new Chief Executive Chris Blenkiron. Together, these moments reflected both respect for legacy and confidence in what comes next.
The farewell and welcome events brought together Board members, executive leaders and our people to acknowledge the chief executives. The gatherings opened with a pōwhiri, followed by karakia and reflections on our long-standing relationship with Vector.
Cultural connection was central to each event we held. The Northpower waiata group Nga Hau E Wha performed alongside our Tongan choir, highlighting the strength of both groups and the role they continue to play in uplifting others.
While the Tongan choir has been part of Northpower for many years, the waiata group has helped to further showcase and amplify its presence across the organisation.
Our waiata group performed a karanga for the first time at Northpower – a meaningful milestone that reflects the growth, confidence and tikanga capability of the waiata group.
While marking these important occasions, the farewell and welcome together reflected who we are – grounded in tikanga, strengthened by culture and focused on growing strong partnerships into the future.
