Key new features include an address search, allowing customers to look up locations such as their home or workplace to check for power outages. There are also sharing tools, making it easy to share outage information via social media, text or email. 

By combining both electricity and fibre outages in the map, the new Outage Centre gives customers a complete overview of current outages and future planned work. This allows people to check the cause of current outages and plan ahead for future planned work that may affect their home, business or farm. 

The new, mobile-friendly Outage Centre enhances Northpower’s existing customer outage notifications and will soon also feature the ability to sign up to receive text or email alerts for active unplanned outages. 

Northpower GM Customer and Operational Excellence, Rachel Wansbone, says the Outage Centre is part of an ongoing programme of work designed to improve customer experience and enhance access to information. 

“Outages affect us all in different ways, so it’s important our customers have access to timely and reliable information they can trust during outages, especially during storms or major events. The new Outage Centre allows people to quickly understand what’s happening – and why – so they can keep themselves and their family safe.” 

Behind the scenes, the Outage Centre brings together enhanced data metrics from Northpower’s operational systems, producing more regular updates, and more detailed information for each outage.
