Northpower invests in Mangawhai with new $20 million electricity project underway
Northpower has broken ground on a $20 million project to build a new subtransmission line from Maungaturoto to Mangawhai substation, which will increase security of supply to the fast-growing region.
This project follows the recent completion of the Mangawhai Central zone substation in 2024 and marks the next stage of ensuring residents and visitors to the area benefit from a resilient, reliable, and secure electricity supply.
A blessing was held with Te Uri o Hau of Ngāti Whatua Kaipara yesterday to prepare for the commencement of work on the 34km line.
Chief Operating Officer – Network Michael Gibbs says, “This major project is a key investment for Northpower, providing increased security of supply to cater to a growing population in Mangawhai which only increases in popularity as an area to live, work, and play.
“Northpower would like to thank all landowners and stakeholders that have supported the project to date and we appreciate your ongoing support while works continue”.
The work is targeted to be completed by mid 2027.
