Northpower to double solar export limits to 10kW

Northpower has over 3000 residential households with solar connected to the network, and to ensure the continued growth of renewable energy in the region, we are doubling the solar export limit from 5kW to 10kW for single-phase connections.

“Enabling renewable energy for both domestic and larger-scale generation is a key strategic priority for Northpower as we support Aotearoa’s transition to renewable energy. Doubling our solar export limit from 5kW to 10kW for households is an important part of this,”
says Michael Gibbs, COO Northpower Network.

Recently, the Electricity Authority has announced an expansion of the voltage range from +/- 6% to +/-10%. This pending change, along with increased visibility of our low-voltage network through investing in smart meter data, means Northpower can increase the export limits with confidence.

Increased export limits should help those considering investing in solar generation to realise an improved return on investment and result in more renewable generation in the region.
