Contracting Capabilities

Northpower provides contracting services across the North Island including engineering, infrastructure management and maintenance and construction.

Our people our stories

We invest in the capability of our people to better serve the needs of our communities and clients.

Whare Ako (our house of learning) encompasses a wide range of development initiatives to fulfil our people’s potential.

Here are some of the ways we do this:

Building a bright future

Rozlyn Fisher joined Northpower as a trade cadets in 2023, determined to build a career for herself in the electrical industry and support her young family.

Under the guidance of her supervisors, she has become one of our top trainee line mechanics at our Whangārei depot.

Rozlyn has thrown herself into every opportunity her training presents. Whilst under supervision she has assisted multiple teams with electrical work, on both overhead and underground lines, and operated heavy lifting equipment. Her dedication to learning has made her an asset to multiple teams throughout the business.

This year Rozlyn was recognised by the Northland Business Awards with the He Poutama Taitamariki Award, recognising her fierce passion for learning and leadership.

Fostering leadership within the business

Our Talent Development Program (TDP) is a comprehensive 12-month course focused on fostering leadership within the business. Participants attend leadership masterclasses and individualised 1:1 coaching.

Ibs Loyola, Northpower’s Technology Service Delivery Manager,  has always been passionate about leading her own development and joined TDP in 2024 “to improve myself, to work on myself, to be a better leader”

Through TDP Ibs learned how to embrace her authentic self as a team leader, and to push her boundaries to achieve real self-growth.

Ibs, along with other TDP participants are currently working on an initiative to make Northpower a more inclusive workplace for people with neurocognitive differences, trialling approaches that promote neuro-wellness. They are developing awareness training for delivery managers and have been trialling dedicated wellness rooms at our Auckland offices.

Inspiring the next generation of electrical talent

Max Eyton joined Northpower in 2020 as an engineering cadet and gained firsthand experience in the electrical industry while completing his two-year diploma in electrical engineering at the Manukau Institute of Technology.

Over the past five years, Max has steadily progressed through the business, developing a strong technical foundation and understanding of network operations. Today he is one of our Risk Score Analysts and works with multiple Northpower teams to maintain Vector’s Auckland network.

Max represents Northpower at student outreach events, encouraging future industry professionals to consider a career in the electrical sector.

Supporting our leaders to perform at their peak

This year we launched our Peak Performance program, designed to develop the potential of our existing people leaders and support them to operate at their peak.

Participants attend workshops focussed on building their capability across the foundations of leadership – translating strategy into action, increasing performance, and leading yourself and others.

Mike Stevens, Northpower’s Operations Manager in Tauranga and Matamata, challenged himself to go past his comfort zone and came away with a broadened leadership approach  that considers his team’s different personal contexts.

Peak performance workshop

On top of formal operation meetings with each team member, Mike has adopted informal one-on-one sessions with his team members as a regular practice. Through these sessions has been able to gain a deeper understanding of his team to foster a more productive  environment.

The second round of Peak in May and sees another 20 leaders from across the business get the opportunity to go through this transformative programme. Leaders from the first programme are now tasked with enrolling the next group by sharing their experience.
