Northpower Fibre has made changes to better support essential services such as hospitals and emergency services. These priority customers are now aligned on a dedicated part of the electronic network where we can increase the battery life and hence operational run time if needed, ensuring continuity of fibre broadband during extended power outages.
These priority sites have been rerouted to specific electronic cards and ports, in the next phase, allowing for targeted monitoring via remote management switches and enabling faster response and resolution in the event of power disruptions caused by extreme weather events.
During an unplanned outage, hospitals and emergency services will benefit from an uninterrupted fibre service lasting 60 to 70 percent longer than previously.
By investing in smart design, redundancy, and an initiative approach with long-term thinking, Northpower Fibre is not only improving network resilience but also supporting a more sustainable digital future for its communities.
