Contracting Capabilities

Northpower provides contracting services across the North Island including engineering, infrastructure management and maintenance and construction.

Northpower electricity consumers to receive $18 million

Northpower electricity consumers will receive $15.8 million in pricing discounts and a further $2.2 million distribution payment thanks to Northpower, Northpower Fibre and the Northpower Trust. This is an increase of $1.7 million from last year, and the sixth year in a row that the discount has increased.

The Northpower Pricing Discount is made possible with the support of the Northpower Electric Power Trust, which owns Northpower on behalf of Northpower’s consumer beneficiaries connected to the Northpower electricity network.

The Northpower Trust says it is satisfying to see Northpower’s consumer beneficiaries continuing to benefit from the consumer ownership model that since 1993 has returned over $278 million to electricity consumers in Kaipara and Whangarei.

Northpower Trust Chair Phil Heatley has welcomed the discount because it flows back directly to electricity consumers in Kaipara and Whangarei.

“We know how much people appreciate the discount because we hear from our consumers when we see them in the community” says Mr Heatley.

Most residential and business customers connected to Northpower’s electricity network will benefit from a discount which will be calculated on their individual usage. The payment will be different for everyone this year and will be made in two separate payments of up to $149.89 inc GST, the first in November 2024 and the second in May 2025.

The splitting of the payment this year is an interim step as the payments are moved out to May annually from 2026. This change to payment timing is required to align the discount to the Network pricing year which runs from April to March.

“We are very pleased that the ongoing success of Northpower enables us to offer this discount back to Northpower’s consumer owners. We know what a difference it makes to so many households, especially in today’s climate,” Northpower Chair Mark Trigg says.

Additionally, this year the Northpower Electric Power Trust is distributing a further $2.2m to our consumer owners, meaning every connected customer will also receive a one-off payment of $35 (GST exempt) in the November / December 2024 payment.

The discount and the one-off trust distribution will be shown as credits on customers’ November or December electricity bills and will benefit over 60,000 current customer connections on the Northpower network.

To qualify as eligible, consumers must have an active network connection as of 1 November 2024 for the first payment and 1 May 2025 for the second. Full details of the eligibility criteria and how the discount is calculated are available at the link below.
