Saving Northland communities millions on power

Our contributions to Northland extend beyond investments in electricity, fibre, and renewable energy infrastructure. We are dedicated to promoting energy efficiency and aiding local households in reducing their power costs.

Over the past year, our home energy education programme performed 1,436 in-home assessments in Whangārei and Kaipara, saving these households an average of $730 per home on their power bills.

Since January 2022, the programme has been providing households in Whangārei and Kaipara with free, personalised energy-saving advice and devices through local assessors. In partnership with Ecobulb Ltd, the programme employs a straightforward tool to calculate and display potential savings to the households receiving assessments.

In the three years since the programme commenced, local energy assessors have supplied 50,899 Ecobulb LEDs and 3,982 energy-efficient showerheads, which can be easily installed to provide households with savings on power. We have helped homes save over $3 million annually, or on average $751 per household.

This Northpower-funded programme has also gained support from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) through the Support for Energy Education in Communities (SEEC) fund. This funding enables an expanded outreach to more households in the region, when reducing utility bills is critical for many families.
