In areas where we can expand our fibre network to, we send physical letters and canvas door-to-door to gauge the amount of interest that residents have in being connected to high-speed fibre. With Catherin Servant Close and Springs Flat, we saw a swell of community interest in being connected to our fibre network.

Our fibre install planners conducted a 1:1 consultation with each resident, examining where the fibre equipment would best be placed to maximise connectivity, and taking into account the residents’ preferences.

On this visit, the fibre install planners plan how the fibre cable will be installed from the street, and how each house will connect to that cable.

Installation for Catherin Servant Close only involved underground works, while installation for Springs Flat involved both underground and overhead works. For underground works, field teams use an excavator and a directional drill to create a cable trench along the street for the cable to reside in. At each house, further underground work is done to connect the in-house fibre equipment to the cable in the street.

For Catherin Servant close, a splitter cabinet was installed at the end of the street, connecting the newly installed cable to the existing fibre network.

For overhead works, the new fibre cable is strung along the existing electricity distribution network poles and is connected to each house by an overhead fibre cable.

We received overwhelmingly positive feedback from residents and continue to see an uptake in interest from other areas throughout the Whangārei and Kaipara regions. This expansion creates opportunities for our local communities and businesses, delivering reliable ultra-fast fibre connectivity.
