Strengthening critical risk controls
Northpower’s critical risk control management programme remains at the forefront of our health, safety strategy.
Our first step was to define our critical risks – risks that pose a likelihood of causing serious harm or a fatality and implementing critical risk control management for each of these ten critical risks, which includes applying a five-step process to assess each risk and identify the related critical controls.
This year has seen us focus on:
- Establishing dedicated SharePoint pages to house a ‘one-stop shop’ place for important details and accessible online resources about the critical risks and the controls for all our people to access from their digital devices.
- Developing safety leadership training for operational leads, to enhance their ability to manage organisational risk profiles and critical controls effectively.
- Beginning to implement our Control Management Action Plans – improving on existing controls or introducing new controls.
- Holding working groups with field staff and operational representatives to identify controls for the following key critical risks: personal security, fatigue, confined spaces, and substances hazardous to health, verifying the presence of these controls and discussing effective application with workers in the field.
