Strengthening our cybersecurity
As a technology driven organisation it’s critical that we protect our digital assets, infrastructure, and confidential information from cybersecurity threats.
Over the last year, Northpower’s Information Security Manager Rachel Parangi has led the way in strengthening our cybersecurity posture. Her innovative approaches to digital security have improved Northpower’s cybersecurity defences, enhancing our ability to identify, prevent, detect, respond to, and recover from possible cyber threats.
Rachel’s impressive work won her the Up-and-Coming Cyber Security Star of the Year award at the 2024 ISANZ Awards.
Security by design
She’s been able to lean on her extensive technical background and knowledge of IT in her first year in this role, establishing Northpower’s Information Security Steering group to address security risks and create ‘security by design’ practices for our business operations.
Rachel actively participates in the Control Systems Security Information Exchange (CSSIE), collaborating and networking with other electricity distribution businesses across New Zealand. She stays on top of industry trends, which are rolled into Northpower’s cybersecurity practices.
Rachel finds success in educating others to consider information security as a business risk and ensuring that cybersecurity is embedded into all areas of the business.
