With a population of over 200,000 and being the fastest-growing region in the country, there is significant potential to be unlocked.
The role of the consortium

As a leading provider of electricity distribution, renewable generation, and fibre optic services, Northpower brings deep expertise and proven capability to the consortium. Our technical knowledge, infrastructure assets, and commitment to innovation continue to play a critical role in supporting the consortiums initiatives to ensure Northland has resilient and sustainable infrastructure.

A commitment to action
The New Zealand Institute of Economic Research (NZIER) report commissioned by the NCG quantifies significant economic benefits of upgrading the crucial road link between Auckland and Northland.
The report underscores the importance of constructing a four-lane expressway to ensure seamless connectivity between the two regions. It emphasises the potential benefits, including substantial economic growth, decreased travel times, lower operating costs, and improved safety.
Unlocking economic potential
The NCG is encouraged by the steps the Government is taking to improve the roading infrastructure between Auckland and Northland, Improved infrastructure boosts economic growth by attracting businesses and investments, potentially unlocking billions of dollars for Northland and the wider country.
The upgrade of State Highway 1 (SH1) between Whangārei and Auckland will significantly improve connectivity between these regions, reducing travel times and operating costs while enhancing safety, making Northland more accessible and attractive for businesses and residents.
The NCG has received support from national industry bodies such as Ia Ara Aotearoa Transporting New Zealand and Infrastructure New Zealand. This support advocates for critical infrastructure investment in Northland.
The NCG also supports the enabling of the energy bridge, a plan for infrastructure investment to unlock the potential of Northland’s 600MW of renewable energy resources for both national and regional benefit.
The NCG is committed to a long-term vision of empowering the region to unleash its economic potential for the benefit of its communities and New Zealand.
