The Role:
As part of the Northpower team, you’ll play a crucial role in carrying out repairs and high-voltage (HV) switching on the electricity distribution network, ensuring the safety and reliability of power services for our customers.
This is a dynamic and fast-paced role that will put your skills to the test while allowing you to contribute to the success of an exciting project with Powerco.
Based in Palmerston North, you will:
- Take charge of switching network
equipment for both planned and unplanned situations
- Provide prompt call response
services for faults, investigating, isolating, and restoring power
- Respond swiftly to emergency
situations, including electrical isolation at accident scenes and hazard
management
- Ensure all work meets or exceeds
Northpower, regulatory, and customer requirements
- Foster strong relationships with
both internal teams and external stakeholders, ensuring open communication
and professional service delivery
- Continuously look for ways to
improve work practices, safety systems, and operational procedures
- Prioritise safety at all times,
complying with Health, Safety, and Quality standards

About You:
To excel in this role, you will have:
- At least 5 years’ experience as
an Electrician or Line Mechanic, with an HT license and Crane/EPV
experience
- Previous standby and switching
experience (highly desirable)
- A passion for delivering
excellent customer service and maintaining a strong safety record
- The ability to think quickly and
respond effectively in high-pressure situations
- Strong communication skills to
liaise with both internal and external stakeholders
- A commitment to continuous
improvement and personal development
