These assessments are designed to provide energy saving advice and tips to homes that may be experiencing energy hardship and includes issuing free LED lightbulbs and low flow showerheads to households.
Northpower funds the programme which is supplemented with contributions from Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) through their Support for Energy Education in Communities (SEEC) fund.
The Northpower Home Energy Education Programme has support across all aspects of our business, from Board level and Executive Leadership Team down through our staff who are passionate about it.
More than $1.9m saved each year
The programme commenced in January 2022, with more than 2,686 assessments completed in the Whangārei and Kaipara regions. Some 30,000 lightbulbs and 2,500 shower heads have been installed, resulting in significant savings on power bills of over $1.9 million per annum.
With the increasing cost of living, the Home Energy Education Programme provides an opportunity to assist those in our community finding it difficult to pay their power bills.
Community assessors
Our assessors are well known and trusted in the communities where the need is highest. These strong community connections have helped our assessors to complete a large proportion of the more than 2,686 assessments to date.
