Business service lines
Keeping your service lines maintained
The power line that runs from the street to your office, commercial building, factory or shed is called a service line. All older service lines were overhead on poles, but these days many are underground, especially in new commercial developments. It’s important to know that as the property owner, you are responsible for your service line.
Shared service lines for multiple businesses
If your business is on a commercial property that is shared by a number of tenants, then the safety and maintenance of your service line is a shared responsibility for you all. If you have any issues with your service line and are unsure who shares the responsibility with you, and where ownership and responsibility transfers from you to Northpower, just contact us – we’re here to help.
Service line maintenance
If you notice your service line has leaning poles, low-hanging lines, crooked cross arms (the wooden arms at the top of the pole) or any other signs of obvious damage, please contact us. Here are some common problems to look for – and remember the sooner you contact us, the less risk of harm – and the sooner we can get things fixed!
- frayed or sagging lines which break easily, especially in high winds
- look for signs of rotten wood on crossarms, check whether your poles are rotting at the base
- keep trees away from power lines – they can cause anything from flickering to a total power outage
- check the point where the service line enters your business – is the line old, repaired or frayed?
