Outages and faults
Experiencing an outage?
There are different types of outages, apart from the obvious one when all your power goes out. You may have part power (where just some of the appliances or electrical sockets in your house don’t work), a hot water fault, or fluctuating power.
If you are unsure, call us first. We may be able to identify the problem on the phone before you call an electrician.
If the problem is caused by an issue on the Northpower network, we’ll fix it at no charge.
If the problem is with your property wiring or equipment, you’ll need to pay for it to be repaired.
Please note: If an electrician is engaged before we’ve had the opportunity to assess the network, any associated costs may not be covered.
Get notified of outages
Make sure your contact details are up to date with your energy retailer so you receive planned outage notifications from us.
Using medical equipment? Be prepared
If you’re medically dependent on electricity, here’s important advice on how to prepare for outages and what to do during one.
Planned maintenance happens Monday to Friday. Why?
We know it can be disruptive, but we plan maintenance during the working week for good reasons.
- To keep down the cost. If all maintenance was scheduled for the weekend, overtime would make electricity less affordable.
- To manage staff fatigue. It’s unsafe for line crews to work a normal week, and weekends, and be rostered on after hours.
- Ensure work-life balance for our people.
