About the Role:
As a Design Technician, you will support our Design
Engineers in producing high‑quality designs, drawings, and pricing estimates
for electricity network works and customer‑initiated projects. Your work will
help ensure safe, compliant, and cost‑effective solutions for our clients and
contribute to the continued success of Northpower in the region.
You’ll be involved in a wide range of technical tasks from preparing CAD drawings and cost estimates to supporting project planning, documentation, and customer coordination.
This role reports to the Delivery Manager – Warkworth Electricity Distribution and has no direct reports. This is a permanent, full-time role.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Estimation
- Assist
in preparing LV distribution designs and cost estimates for subdivisions,
commercial developments, and customer‑initiated works.
- Provide
technical support for HV network and substation projects.
- Produce
and maintain CAD construction and as‑built drawings.
- Interpret
engineering drawings and specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Apply
Northpower standards, industry codes, and regulatory requirements.
- Gather
technical data and assist with tender and contract documentation.
- Support
project planning through preparation of work packs, schedules, and
documentation.
- Coordinate
with customers, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Contribute
to project handovers, ensuring documentation is complete and accurate.
- Participate
in internal reviews and incorporate feedback.

About You:
We’re looking for someone who is proactive, detail‑focused,
and passionate about safe and effective design.
Qualifications
- Diploma
in Electrical Engineering (or similar) OR at least 3 years of relevant electricity
industry experience in a design technician role or similar.
- Full
NZ Driver’s Licence (or equivalent).
Skills & Experience
- Knowledge
of distribution network design, pricing, or construction activities.
- Strong
communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability
to plan and prioritise workload to meet deadlines.
- Commitment
to safety in design and project delivery.
- Strong
teamwork and relationship‑building skills.
- Familiarity
with Vector Electricity network (advantageous).
